ABOUT US

“Nothing can take the place of the arts in the life of a community. The arts are a vital, life-giving force that energizes everything we do.”

– Reggie Levine, Nantucket Arts Council President Emeritus

What We Do

Mission

The Nantucket Arts Council is a nonā€profit organization that supports and encourages a collaborative community of the visual, performing and literary arts through education, grants, scholarships and events.

The Nantucket Arts Council is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1973. Since that time, we have stoked the fires of creativity in our community by supporting and encouraging a wide range of artistic endeavors on the island. We combine the collective knowledge and connections of our board members to create opportunities for engagement with the musical, literary, visual, and theatrical arts.

We recognize the necessary and positive impact that all forms of art has in our lives. Nantucket Arts Council provides grants and programming to ensure our children are afforded the opportunity to get up close and personal with performers and artists and attend productions that might otherwise be unattainable due to our location. We identify, support, and recognize artists within our community scholarship and funding programs, and also maintain signature annual events such as the Nantucket Arts Festival and Shakespeare in the Garden. We are committed to providing performances by world-class artists for Nantucket audiences through our own concert series and by supporting the missions and programming of other local arts organizations through grants.

There isn’t an aspect of the arts on the island that hasn’t benefitted from the Nantucket Arts Council’s work and funding in the last 40 years, and we hope you’ll join us to ensure the arts have a secure place in our community for the next generation and the years to come.
